The "Deathslider"

Sadly the population.io API has been out of order for quite some time and this experiment no longer works

Set the left slider to the year from which you want to start, interesting years might be 1878 (first lightbulb), 1937 (introduction of spam), 1953 (death of Stalin) and 1978 (Stayin' Alive topped the charts). The right slider is used to set the end date. After setting the sliders a chart will present the amount of people alive at the end date who were also alive at the start date. This result is also divided into people who were of age at the start date and those who were under 18.
The purpose of the slider is to get some understanding into what sentiments might have been like at a certain point in time. For instance we can see that at the time of writing (2019) almost a third of all living people were not even alive when 9/11 happened. To take into account the impact of migration all results are based on the world population in a certain year.
My sincere thanks go out to the folk over at Population.io for their dataset!
